I got up at 4:20am as the forecast and tide prediction looked promising. When I arrived at Selwick Bay it fell some way short of ideal conditions. There weren't any clouds around and visibility wasn't great either (I think I was spoiled by the great light I got up at Saltburn the other week).
Anyway, I stuck the 10-stop on and managed to get this shot, so all wasn't lost.

milou 25/04/09 - 08:04:31 Well worth the early start. Although an absence of cloud, the light is clear and direct especially on that foreground stone which seems a giant shell. I've always thought the cliffs and the chalk beach act as reflectors.
Jim (365,000 words) 25/04/09 - 12:04:33 I don't think the lack of clouds is any loss to this shot. There is something in the sky and the quality of light that just captures the feel of dawn. I like it.
BobC 25/04/09 - 12:04:38 Definitely worth the start. I nearly made it over that way for dawn myself this morning but eventually was just too knackered, lol.
PIXistenz 26/04/09 - 09:04:53 beautiful, great composition, love the long exposure effect
Kjetil 26/04/09 - 14:04:17 Like the others have said, it was worth it! The composition is good, the colors and stunning, and you've captured the morning mood quite good!
Joanna 26/04/09 - 17:04:43 first of all, congrats on the early start. seems like it was worth it after all. this long exposure has something special to it.
birgit 14/07/09 - 11:07:38 I tried such shots in scotland, but I guess my fault was that I could not get up early enough - the days starts so damn early now!
Diane - Daily Walks 29/08/09 - 15:08:21 Hi Jon, Haven't visited for ages -- your work is as inspiring as ever!
